Herald Ranks North Border 4th in Region 2 Wrestling
A look ahead to 2006-07
Herald rankings (based on coaches' poll):
1. Central Cass;
2. Hillsboro;
3. Carrington;
4. North Border;
5. Cavalier;
6. Harvey;
7. (tie) Larimore and Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg;
9. Grafton.
The reasons: Both Central Cass and Hillsboro have veteran lineups. Central Cass graduated five seniors, so it lacks last season's depth. But it has good quality. Six state qualifiers return, including state placers Ryan Heisler (first), Clayton Dahl (second) and Ryan Dale (fifth). Hillsboro had just one senior on last year's team and only three this season. But the Burros have a veteran group, and there is proven quality. Gus Lee (third), Andrew Grothmann (fourth) and Anthony Von Ruden (eighth) are returning state placers, and Dan Rude is a defending region champion. Carrington is the perennial power in the region. North Border builds around three returning state placers in Matthew Chaput (fourth), Anthony Calvillo (sixth) and Cale Benoit (eighth).
Returning region champions: Scott Douglas, Larimore; Mitch Ford, Cavalier; Matthew Chaput, North Border; Gus Lee and Dan Rude, Hillsboro; Ryan Heisler, Central Cass.
