Former Eagles Wrestling Standout Dies



Former North Border wrestler Jack Bennet died on Monday, July 31st as a result of injuries sustained in a two vehicle accident July 24th near the Pembina County town of Leroy.
Bennett, 21, was a state qualifier for the Eagles wrestling team and was a graduate of Walhalla High School.
A Saturday funeral is planned at the Walhalla Civic Center. The North Border wrestling team and Jack’s brothers, sisters and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Jack Bennett, age 21 of Walhalla, ND died on Monday, July 31, 2006, at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Walhalla Civic Center, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, August 4th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation at the Civic Center for one hour before the time of services on Saturday. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND. Arrangements with Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla, ND. Jack D. Bennett was born May 9, 1985, at Altona, Manitoba to Manley and Mary Ellen (Carpenter) Bennett. He grew up in Walhalla and graduated from Walhalla High School. For 13 years he was an avid wrestler and for the past year enjoyed competitive arm wrestling. He served in the 134th Quartermaster Detachment Water Distribution of the North Dakota Army National Guard. Some of Jack’s other pastimes included hunting, archery, and horseback riding. He is survived by his parents, Manley and Mary Bennett, Walhalla, ND; siblings, Travis (Autumn) Bennett and Annmarie Bennett all of Walhalla; Nathan Bennett, Fargo, ND; Vance Bennett (fiancee, Tiffany McDonald), Bismarck, ND; Samantha Bennett (friend, Eric Diemert), Wahpeton, ND; nephews, Gage, Preston, Brent, and Connor; maternal grandmother, Vivian Carpenter, Walhalla, ND; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jack was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Mickey Carpenter and paternal grandparents, Peter and Edith Bennett. Clergy: Rev.
